‘The Box Of Delights’!

I am very honoured to be involved in the eleventh and final release on the Sonic Cathedral Singles Club! A seasonal collaboration with Mark Peters of the theme to the classic Xmas TV series ‘The Box Of Delights’! Mark Peters recorded a beautiful version of the classic TV theme, and I remixed it for the AA Side. It is released on December 17th! Jingle bells!

More info:

The eleventh and final release on the Sonic Cathedral Singles Club is a brand new seasonal recording by @markpetersofficial
––––––––––––––––––––
It’s a cover of the theme tune to the classic kids’ Christmas TV series ‘The Box Of Delights’ – which was first broadcast 35 years ago today on November 21, 1984.
––––––––––––––––––––
Part of an incredible soundtrack put together by BBC Radiophonic Workshop don Roger Limb, it is actually ‘The First Noel’ segment of the Carol Symphony by Victor Hely-Hutchinson, but Mark’s version manages to be as sinister as Abner Brown, the show’s antagonist, with a scary Spiritualized-meets-The-Excorcist feel. Over on the AA-side @thisismaps manages to prise open the box and bathes everything in light and magic on his delightful remix.

This 7” single is pressed on snow white vinyl and comes in a lovely sleeve featuring linocut images inspired by the show courtesy of @howlingkestrel – subscriber copies come with an exclusive outer sleeve housed in a PVC wallet, plus an additional free gift that we will be sealing nearer the time. The singles will be mailed out on or before December 17.

Subscriptions have now SOLD OUT, but check out the link in our bio about when extra copies of all the Singles Club releases will be available to buy individually.

A MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE ALBUM OF THE YEAR NOMINEE 2007

A hugely ambitious, widescreen and epic record that recalls everything from the far away electronics of Basic Channel and Carl Craig, through the skewed songwriting of Postal Service, Flaming Lips and Grandaddy to the euphoric sound-scapes of Sigur Ros and My Bloody Valentine, We Can Create is a work of heart stopping extremes.

The album was recorded without computers, preferring the painstaking process of splicing sounds together on MAPS’ battered 16 track recorder in his Northamptonshire bedroom, the results were subsequently co-produced by Valgeir Sigurdsson (Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Bjork) and mixed by Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Hope Of The States). The critically acclaimed album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2007.

Maps has remixed Depeche Mode, Public Service Broadcasting, Susanne Sundfør, Moby, C Duncan, M83 and more.

This is a limited edition re-press of the album on green vinyl.

Released as part of the MUTE 4.0 (178>TOMORROW) series.
